Antarctica, the last wilderness, is the coldest, driest, and the windiest continent, and has the highest average elevation of all the continents on planet Earth. Looks like it has a record there.
No place on planet Earth compares to this vast white wilderness. Snow, ice, water, rock, Antarctica is simply stunning. The continent has never had a native population, and is mostly used as a place for research, with many nations having research bases. With the 1961 Antarctic Treaty allowing the continent to be used only for peaceful purposes, Antarctica is unique not only for its geographical features, but for the resilience man (and beast) has to show to survive in this place, the last wilderness.
McMurdo Station is the base and jumping-off point for almost every type of science project you could imagine (from astronomical to biological). So how would a year on Antarctica look like? Photographer Ben Adikson captures Antarctica visually over a period of a year, showing us how life on the continent would be, and what it takes to keep the research base going.

Wow, wonderful… I’m not sure though if I would want to spend a whole year in that cold…
Will do! Nice blog. Interesting that I thought your blog would be more or less about programming and hacking, judging from your name. And I see different things! Cheers! 🙂
Wow… Awesome click… i have been really wanting to visit Antarctica. Your photos are making it more desirable. By the way how much did it cost for the whole expedition?

I think you will have to spend a couple of months there first, in order to spend a whole year. 🙂
